ASML PhD Masterclass Experience
I joined more than fifty PhD students and postdocs for the autumn ASML PhD Masterclass last weekend. The two-day event was intensive and highly informative for exploring industry career options ahead of graduation. While many details are confidential, we worked in small teams on a practical case study focused on optics alongside participants from physics and engineering backgrounds.
The programme included technical briefings and hands-on sessions that gave me a clearer view of how research maps to industrial practice. I also had productive conversations with ASML engineers about day-to-day life in the company and what it’s like to work in large tech organisations.
Summary
The masterclass broadened my understanding of semiconductor lithography — in particular ASML’s High-NA EUV, EUV and DUV systems — and highlighted the complexity and interdisciplinary nature of these machines. The case study and discussions offered useful insights into research–industry collaboration, career pathways in industry, and practical challenges in the semi conductor industry.
P.S.
Still exploring career options in industry and grateful for the exposure and connections from this event.
